On Route to South Dakota – Day 2<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Packing up was so easy this morning. The trailer was still hooked up to the truck. We had not bothered stabilizing the trailer. Only connected electric. Most of the inside was still in \u201ctravel mode\u201d. I wish it was always that easy. Well, maybe soon it will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drive into South Dakota and towards Rapid City was beautiful. Mostly rolling hills and grassland. Wide open. Early on we saw some oil or natural gas installations, which reminded us of North Dakota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The RV Park is North of Rapid City. Close enough for convenience and far enough to not be bothered by it. Many at Lazy JD RV Park come back each year and stay a few months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting a South Dakota Driver\u2019s License?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

We drove to Rosebud from Rapid City for my appointment. I scheduled it a while back. It\u2019s a 3-hour drive! I chose Rosebud, because they had an appointment available much earlier in the month compared to other locations. I rearranged some meetings, shifted my working hours, and off we went early in the morning, driving through the incredible Southern South Dakota landscape. When I walked in, I learned that they could not process any driver\u2019s license changes today. \u201cWe have no internet!\u201d. Bummer. They did try calling me 15 min before the appointment, but at that point I was already in town, trying to find the tribal building. All they could do for me was getting me an appointment in Rapid City the next week. So, we drove home, taking a slightly different route, and enjoying the time on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What surprised me is that I wasn\u2019t even upset. Not that long ago, an event like this would have bent me out of shape and ruined the day. Not this time. What happened? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe it is not just understanding (intellectually) the difference between the \u201ccircle of concern\u201d and the \u201ccircle of influence\u201d but having internalized it. It\u2019s part of my emotional response, perhaps. My wife calls it \u201chaving more margin\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
