Bakersfield, CA

October 3 – 5, 2020

Shady Haven RV Park
250 Fairfax Road
Bakersfield, CA 93307

We chose this one because it has storage on site. Thought it might be a good garaging place for the motorcycle. Until we arrived…. The noise from the train and traffic is unbearable. After the first night, we spent the day looking for another park. The staff and the owners are very nice, but the park does not work for us. In fact, the area does not work for us. We will be staying away from Bakersfield. Tehachapi, however, seems nice.

On Route to Bakersfield

October 3, 2020

We left Lee Vining and headed towards Bakersfield. Joerg was excited to get one step closer to seeing the motorcycle again. Bakersfield is the next place where we would garage it.

As we got closer to Bakersfield, the air quality became really bad and we were wondering if we had made a bad decision. Maybe we should have stayed in Lee Vining for another week?

Arriving at Shady Haven in Bakersfield, we were not thrilled about the immediate neighborhood. The park itself, though, seemed nice. Everything was new. The concrete patios were large and all the hookups in excellent condition. The only thing green however, were the tiny tops of the very tall palm trees. No grass. Still, we enjoyed the warm and bug-free air in the evening.

During the night we learned how busy the nearby train tracks were. There was no way for us to stay there for the whole week, get decent sleep, and work during the day.

We looked up some parks nearby and visited them. River Run RV Park came out on top, we made a reservation, and moved the following day.

The people at Shady Haven are very friendly and supportive. They offered another place in their “Monthlies” section. For a moment, we were wondering if we had made a decision too quickly. Ultimately though, moving out was the best for us and the people at Shady Haven understood.

River Run would also be a good location to leave our trailer for 11 days while we are on our trip to Germany.
